I was on Toronto Islands on Saturday, more out of the frustration of not getting out all week than there being the chance of a good bird. I bumped into AA at the ferry terminal and then big-list Norm whilst out there. We hung out together much of the time. As it turned out it was quite birdy out there, just usual fare, but quite nice. However, since it was sunny my mind soon turned to butterfly mode and I started to wade through the obvious influx of sulphurs. Nowt doing, but I did see a couple of Fiery Skippers and masses of Common Buckeyes. A chance meeting with local birder Gavin steered me in the direction of an ab fab male Connecticut Warbler he’d discovered earlier in the morning. Amazing looks at the arch skulker! Even got a few photos! Best though was heard-only Red Crossbills – sounding like the sweet-talking westerners that seem to be sweeping across the province right now. One more for the old TI list – Bobby, I’m catching-up!!
